This product is used for the in vitro quantification of thyrotrophic hormone (TSH) in human serum. Thyrotrophin (TSH) is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by thyrotropic cells in the anterior pituitary gland with a molecular weight of approximately 28 KD and a half-life of 60 minutes. TSH secretion is regulated by thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) secreted by the hypothalamus, but also by the thyroid gland itself. The biological role is to promote thyroid hormone synthesis and release of TT3 and TT4, while serum levels of TT3 and TT4 inhibit the continued release of TSH from the pituitary gland through feedback, thus maintaining stable serum levels of TT3 and TT4, thus ensuring accurate and effective regulation of TT3 and TT4. In addition, TSH is responsible for many metabolic processes in the thyroid, such as cAMP production, glucose oxidation, oxygen consumption, and phospholipid and protein synthesis. TSH is a very sensitive and specific parameter for testing thyroid function, and small changes in free thyroid concentrations can lead to significant adjustments in TSH concentrations in the opposite direction. TSH fluctuates more rapidly and significantly than thyroid hormones when thyroid function is altered. TSH is the earliest indicator of abnormal thyroid function in clinical diagnostic testing and is required for both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, and is an important indicator of hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid function.
