Pepsinogen (PG) is a precursor of pepsin, which is secreted by gastric mucosal tissues and converted into pepsin with the ability to break down proteins, and is divided into two subgroups according to its biochemical properties and immunogenicity. Groups 1-5 have the same immunogenicity and are called PGⅠ, which is mainly secreted by the principal cells of the gastric glands and the mucus neck cells, while groups 6-7 are called PGⅡ, which is secreted by the principal cells of the lytic glands in the fundic mucosa of the gastric body.
