Bowie-Dick Test Packs are used for single use test packs which designed to evaluate the performance of the air removal system of a sterilizer which include pre-vacuum. They are thought up to be compatible with prevacuum cycles operating at special exposure temperatures or within a specified exposure temperature range. The purpose of the prevacuum cycle is to take all the air from the sterilizer chamber. This presents the steam to make contact with all the surfaces in the load. If air is present, steam penetration to all the surfaces in the load will be impeded. Why do the Bowie-Dick test give fail ? There can be several reason of the fails of bowie dick test pack. The main general reasons are : Faulty vacuum pump. Faulty pressure switch/sensor giving incorrect reading. Water supply temperature to the vacuum pump is too high. Leak in sensor ports attached to the chamber.
