Description

The Bradford Protein Assay is a biochemical assay for determining the total level of protein in a solution, first described by Marion M. Bradford in 1976. Proteins are biopolymeric structures composed of amino acids that play many critical roles in the body. Protein is also a vital part of the human diet. Protein quantification assays are therefore fundamental to biological research, clinical diagnosis or food industry. The BCA assay has many advantages over the alternatives (e.g. Lowry, Bradford) including compatibility with most salts, solvents, buffers, thiols, reducing substances, and metal chelating agents encountered in protein samples.
