The BIOTECH SKM - Short Anatomical Hip Stem system represents a new generation of bone-saving treatment option for primary hip implantations, which were especially designed for Minimally Invasive surgery to preserve valu- able muscles and bones structures, when cemented or uncemented primary hip replacement is indicated. One of the key advantages of the SKM Stem is that it ideally facilitates the Minimally Invasive operation technique. With its unique anatomical design and the wide range of available left and right sizes, the SKM Stem allows it to obtain initial fixation and stability and it covers a wide spectrum of indications in the hip replacement surgeries. The small sizes are suitable for the treatment of children, and they offer an excellent solution for dysplasia cases as well. The SKM Stem system is perfectly compatible with the standard cemented and uncemented cup systems and modular heads of the BIOTECH BA Total Hip system, which also perfectly cover the widest range of indications, including the treatment of children and dysplasia cases, with the suitable sizes of uncemented press-fit cups (40 - 42 mm) and modular heads (22 mm) Stem sizes are available in wide range of left and right sizes, in both, cemented CoCr and uncemented CoCr version with titanium porous coating. The uncemented SKM Stem, with the unique properties of the well-proven plasma sprayed titanium coating, achieves a strong biological secondary fixation, to promote a rapid and pain-free functional recovery. This type of "closed-pore" coating has no interconnective spaces, a pore size ranging between 75-350 micron, thickness of 500 micron and approximately 30% porosity.
