Rapid HFRS IgG/IgM Combo Test is a rapid immunochromatographic assay for the simultaneous detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to Hantavirus in human whole blood, serum or plasma. The assay is used as a screening test for Hantaviral infection and as an aid for diagnosis of Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS).
HFRS is a group of clinically similar illnesses caused by Hantaviruses from the family Bunyaviridae. HFRS includes diseases such as Korean hemorrhagic fever, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, and nephropathia epidemica.
Blood tests can reveal if your body has made antibodies to a Hantavirus. Your doctor may order other laboratory tests to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms. Several laboratory tests are used to confirm a diagnosis of HFRS in patients with a clinical history compatible with the disease. Such patients are determined to have HFRS if they have serologic test results positive for Hantavirus infection.
