Rapid Legionella Urinary Antigen Test is an in vitro qualitative immunochromatographic assay for the rapid detection of legionella pneumophilia antigens in human urine specimen. The test results are intended to aid in the diagnosis of legionella pneumophila infection and to monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic treatment.
Legionnaire’s disease is caused by Legionella pneumophila and is an acute febrile respiratory illness ranging in severity from mild illness to fatal pneumonia. The preferreddiagnostic tests for Legionnaire’s disease are culture of lower respiratory secretions on selective media and the Legionella urinary antigen test. If the patient has pneumonia and the test is positive, you should consider the patient to have Legionnaire’s disease. The test can remain positive for a few weeks after infection, even with antibiotic treatment. The urinary antigen test detects most common cause of Legionnaire’s disease.
