It has been proved that CK20 is almost completely confined to the mekerl cells of gastrointestinal epithelium, urinary tract epithelium and skin. CK20 is less acidic than other type I keratin and is of concern due to its limited expression in tissues. In normal tissue, CK20 is expressed in the intestinal glandular epithelium, gastric microconcave epithelium. Many endocrine cells in the upper part of the pyloric gland, the epithelium of the urinary tract and the Merkel cells in the epithelium. It has been reported that the expression of CK20 in different cancer tissues is significantly different. The tumors expressing CK20 are derived from the normal epithelium itself that expresses CK20 only.
