ALDH1A1belongs to the acetaldehyde dehydrogenase group, it contains 19 isoforms which is an evolutionarily conserved group located in the cytoplasm, mitochondria, or nucleus. In recent years, ALDH1A1 mRNA has been reported to be more highly expressed in isolated fibrous tumors (SFT) and hemangiopericytoma (HPC) compare than in meningiomas and synovial sarcomas.
ALDH1A1 antibody is used in combination with CD34 to identify SFT, HPC, meningioma, and synovial sarcoma. When ALDH1A1 and CD34 were combined, 96% of meningeal SFTs and 98% of meningeal HPCs were positive, compared with 6% of meningiomas and 7% of synovial sarcomas based upon the utilization of ALDH1A1 separately. ALDH1A1 antibody has been recommended in combination with CD34 for routine differential diagnosis of SFT HPC meningioma and synovial sarcoma.
