Codonics Safe Label System (SLS), a standard of care in the world’s leading hospitals, helps to prevent drug administration errors. SLS uses barcode technology to identify vials and ampoules anywhere medications are prepared. In the OR, SLS integrates on the anesthesia drug cart. As the clinician removes medications from the cart, he/she simply swipes the medication’s barcode on SLS and is immediately provided with visual and audible confirmation of the drug and concentration in hand. A TJC-compliant, full-color, easy-to-read barcoded label that includes the drug name, concentration, preparer’s initials, date and time of expiration, the diluent and dilution if required, and any warnings about the drug is immediately presented and ready to apply to the syringe. This prepared medication can be scanned at SLS, with visual and audible confirmation of drug, concentration, and expiration time, for a triple-check prior to administration.
Ensuring that a scan is always within reach, Codonics offers an optimized Wired Hand Scanner that quickly and easily connects to SLS. This hand scanner enables medication containers that are too large to scan directly on SLS to be scanned at the point of care. At preparation, the medication’s NDC is scanned using the hand scanner. The system provides a visual and audible confirmation of the drug in hand, enabling the safe workflow of SLS to be maintained while ensuring every medication can be electronically identified before preparation.
