The DUSA for DPIs is a larger version of the DUSA for MDIs and is designed specifically to sample at flow rates up to 100 L/min. It is also used to characterise the flow resistance of DPIs. The pressure tap (PI) in its wall is used to connect a critical flow controller to measure the pressure drop across the device. The DUSA for DPIs can also be used to assess nasal powders.
During testing, air is drawn through the sampling apparatus to broadly simulate inhalation. A critical flow controller is required to control air flow supply to the inhaler and ensure critical (sonic) flow conditions during testing.
