Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme widely distributed in tissues like heart, lung, liver, kidney, skeletal muscles. Determinations of elevated LDH activity in serum are mainly used to aid in the diagnosis and monitor of myocardial infarction, pulmonary disease, hepatic disease, red blood cell disease, skeletal muscle disease or injury, renal parenchymal disease, intestinal ischemia and infarction, testicular tumors, lymphoma and other reticuloendothelial neoplasms, advanced solid malignant tumors, pancreatitis, diffuse diseases or injuries, also in patients with higher risk of COVID-19 adverse outcome.
