Allevio® nerve block catheter consists of two plastic catheters inserted into each other.
When used, the internal catheter is automatically bent so that it enters the back of the nose, Sphenopalatina (SPG). The purpose is to block the SPG ganglion. A 4% local anesthesia is injected through the catheter. The Allevio® nerve block catheter is CE approved as a medical device and is simple to use.
This is how to perform the treatment on a patient
The patient lies down on a gurney or a bed.
Insert the Allevio® nerve block catheter in one nostril until it stops.
Pull back the catheter 5 mm (a half mark, marked on the catheter).
Push in the inner catheter which will automatically end up in the cavity.
Inject 2 ml local anesthesia through the catheter.
Bring out the catheter.
Repeat the procedure in the other nostril.
The patient should remain in a supine position for approximately 10 minutes.
How often should treatment be performed?
Experience from hospitals in the U.S. shows that the best effect is obtained if you start with treatment two times a week during a three-week period. After the three-week period the frequency of the treatment is adjusted depending on how the patient has responded.
Some of the patients will get an immediate effect of the treatment and for some it will take a bit longer. The principle for this treatment has existed for many years, but there has not been any good method for bringing the active substance to the right place until now.
With the Allevio® nerve block catheter it is now possible to carry out the treatment in a simple way at healthcare centers and clinics.
