The main advantage of the rotary flow controller is, when it’s properly set (drop count at the drop count chamber), the stability of the infusion rate being more precise than the wheel regulators’ by simple crushing of the tube. Besides, the handling of the flow controller being so simple, it makes its use attractive.
However, the practice audits reminds us that 90% of operators observe differences between real and theoretical flow, when using graduated flow controllers. Thus, the height, the viscosity of the fluid infused, can, among other things, influence the flow.
So, we should use the same flow adjustment rules as with classical infusors (drop count at the drop count chamber), flow controllers without graduation encourage the respect of good practices of infusor adjustment by gravity.
They must not be used with some pharmaceutical specialities.
