Calprotectin is a protein present in neutrophils and its high concentration in the stools is a sign of inflammation. High levels are observed typically in patients with UC (ulcerative colitis), Crohn's disease (CD), colic, gastric and oesophageal neoplasms. Further, an increase of values can be observed in all the pathologies that involve the activation of an acute or chronic inflammatory process of the gastrointestinal system.
Methods:
Immunoenzymatic method for the quantitative determination of calprotectin in stools samples, using a disposable device applied on the Chorus and Chorus TRIO instruments. The test is based on the ELISA principle (Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay). The polyclonal antibodies are bound to the solid phase. Calprotectin is bound to the solid phase through incubation with the extract of faeces. The disposable devices contain all the reagents to perform the test in the Chorus/Chorus TRIO instruments. The results are expressed in mg/Kg.
Coated with polyclonal anti-calprotectin antibodies
For the determination of Calprotectin in human stool. Contains calibrator and positive control.
