ELI.H.A Distoma enables the quantitative determination, by indirect hemagglutination, of serum antibodies present in patients suffering from distomiasis (Fasciola hepatica).
Liquid ready-to-use reagents
Cost-effective test

Benefits
Intended Use
Distomiasis are parasitic diseases caused by trematodes. The location of the adult worms in the host gives rise to the following classifications:
hepato-biliary distomiasis
intestinal distomiasis
pulmonary distomiasis
Hepato-biliary distomatosis, infection by Faciola hepatica is characterized by a progressive life-cycle in the human definitive host, which includes a transperitoneal and transhepatic larval migrationary phase. Diagnosis of F. hepatica is primarily immunological during the invasive phase of infection and relies upon the detection of antibodies (phase where there is no faecal egg transmission). Immunological diagnosis is also of great interest during the early disease state phase, because the eggs are only emitted in small quantities. ELITech developed the ELI.H.A Distoma, an indirect hemagglutination assay, for the quantitative determination of anti- Faciola hepatica antibodies in the serum. It is rapid, easy-to-use and easy-to-read with results available within 2 hours and reliable overnight.
Principle
Sheep red blood cells are sensitized with Faciola hepatica antigen. Diluted serum is mixed with sensitized sheep red blood cells. If anti-Faciola hepatica antibodies are present in the serum, sensitized red blood cells will agglutinate,
