Parvovirus B19 is a highly infectious and prevalent virus in the general population, acquired mostly during childhood, and responsible for a skin rash illness called “fifth disease”. Latent Parvovirus B19 can be reactivated after kidney or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and generates serious complications, especially in anemic patients, by impairing red blood cell production. Parvovirus B19 detection and viral load monitoring is crucial among these patients in order to initiate early polyvalent immunoglobulins treatment and prevent transplant failure. Parvovirus B19 detection and quantification is also important during pregnancy to confirm an ongoing infection when foetal defects are observed during ultrasound scan, and initiate the appropriate therapy method early. Parvovirus B19 ELITe MGB® Kit is a real-time PCR assay designed for the detection and quantification of Parvovirus B19 DNA. The assay is CE-IVD validated on different sample types, in combination with ELITe InGenius®, a fully automated sample-to-result solution.
