HSV1, HSV2 and VZV are common causes of viral meningitis in adolescents and adults. These infections can cause similar symptoms to bacterial meningitis, and induce serious inflammations, like herpetic meningo-encephalitis, a therapeutic emergency resulting in important sequelae and a high mortality rate if untreated. Rapid detection of HSV1, HSV2 and VZV with molecular testing methods is crucial to identify the viral agent involved, rule out a bacterial infection and provide an adapted treatment.
Meningitis Viral 1 ELITe MGB® Panel is a triplex PCR assay designed for the detection of type 1 and 2 herpes virus and varicella zoster virus specific genes in one single reaction. The assay is CE-IVD validated on cerebrospinal fluid samples, in combination with ELITe InGenius®, a fully automated sample-to-result solution.
