Toxoplasma IgM is an ELISA kit for qualitative detection of IgM antibodies to Toxoplasma Gondii, in human serum, as an aid for diagnosis of active Toxoplasma infection.
Clinical Significance:
Toxoplasma gondii is a ubiquitous protozoa which causes infection in all species of mammals. In man, serological studies have shown that a high percentage of the adult population becomes infected by this parasite. The disease is particularly dangerous during pregnancy, being transmitted from mother to fetus and causing serious malformations. For this reason it is important to determine the antibody titer before the beginning of pregnancy if possible; those subjects who do not present immunity should be followed up with frequent analyses to check for serum conversion.
