Calponin-1 (CNN-1)
Properties: Calponin-1 (or CNN-1) is the smooth muscle counter-part protein of the Troponin, found in the myocardium. Three isoforms have been described, the basic Calponin isoform remains highly specific to smooth muscle.
Through binding to Actin, Calmodulin, Troponin C and Tropomyosin, it is postulated that Calponin-1 regulates the contractility of the smooth muscle.
Due to the analogy with Troponin proteins (myocardial necrosis marker) and the high tissue specificity, CNN-1 has been recently explored as a circulating marker of arterial damage.
Clusterin
Properties: Clusterin is a glycoprotein, also known as Apolipoprotein J, which is often associated with the clearance of cellular debris, control of cell proliferation and apoptosis. It is expressed in most mammalian tissues and is detected in plasma, milk, urine, cerebrospinal fluid and semen.
Many new publications showed that serum Clusterin level increases significantly in patients with developing coronary heart disease, or myocardial infarction.
Clusterin is an interesting circulating biomarker to study the physiopathology of the Heart Failure.
Caldesmon
Properties: Caldesmon, predominantly expressed in smooth muscle thin filament, is considered to be potential modulator of smooth muscle contraction.
