Hormones are highly efficient bioactive substances secreted by endocrine glands or endocrine cells and act in the body as a messenger to convey information. Hormones also regulate the metabolic activities of various tissue cells to affect the body's physiological activities, such as metabolism, growth, development and reproduction. The secretion of hormones is mostly regular, may also be affected by external environmental factors and becomes intermittently, thus, the physiological activity can be monitored by the hormone levels in the body. The Firstep Pregnancy and Ovulation Tests can detect related hormones in specimen and provide reproductive information based on test results.

A low background level of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is always present in a woman’s urine. At about the middle of her monthly cycle, the LH increases suddenly to a high surged level which causes the release of an egg from ovary about 24-36 hours later (ovulation). To become pregnant, the egg must be fertilized with a sperm cell in time. This test can help predict ovulation time quickly and easily.
