The SwabSaver® provides the simplest method of collecting and preserving a biological sample on a swab at room temperature
HOW IT WORKS
Preservation
The SwabSaver® is the only device that preserves swabs at room temperature and integrates into laboratory processing, improving efficiency and reducing errors. The patented design uses our forensic experience to preserve samples without the use of a liquid preservative. This provides:
A better customer collection experience with less mess and fewer manipulations
A faster collection and packaging process
A less expensive and simpler shipping process
Processing Samples
The SwabSaver® is pushed open by pressing your thumb on the side of the desiccant cap. The desiccant cap is removed by pushing down on the green wings attached to the cap until you slide them beyond the bottom of the vial. The Desiccant cap and attached wings can be discarded.
Add lysis buffer manually or in a liquid handling instrument. If you are are only isolating DNA and not proteins, add Proteinase K to your lysis buffer and put on a LabCap. Incubate for 30 minutes in a water bath at 65 degrees C.
After incubation, centrifuge at 10,000g for 2 minutes. Remove the LabCap and Spin Basket after centrifugation. These can be discarded and your DNA extract is in the bottom of the vial and ready for purification or downstream processing.
Purification
We recommend purifying your sample after extraction for most downstream processes. There are many instruments and kits available to purify DNA extracted from our SimpleSwab. Please call us to discuss a system that suits your requirements.
