How Does A Diode Laser Work?
Diode lasers use the principle of selective photothermolysis (abbreviated SPTL) to
target specific chromophores in the skin, usually melanin or blood. The lasers damage
the chromophores by selectively heating them while leaving surrounding tissue unharmed.
When treating unwanted hair, for example, the melanin in the hair follicles is targeted and
damaged which results in the disruption of hair growth and regeneration. A diode laser
can be complemented by cooling technology, or other pain reducing methods which
improve treatment efficacy and patient comfort.
How many sessions do you need for diode laser hair removal?
The number of sessions depends on the area of the body being treated. Notably, upper parts
like the face and underarms require around 8 to 10 sessions to achieve desired results
compared to 6 to 8 sessions for the bikini line and legs. After which, 2 or more touch-up
treatments every year maybe needed.
