What is intense pulsed light therapy?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) or flashlamp therapy is a non-invasive and non-
ablative treatment that uses high-intensity pulses of visible light to improve
the appearance of the following skin problems:
Vascular lesions including spider telangiectasis, port wine stains, broken facial
Veins, rosy cheeks, rosacea and red thread veins of the legs
Freckles and age marks
Facial lines and wrinkles
Removal of unwanted dark hair
The procedure of rejuvenating aged skin is referred to as photorejuvenation
and requires a series of IPL treatments.
IPL may also be helpful for mild to moderate acne and stretch marks.
How long does IPL hair removal last?
We refer to IPL as a semi-permanent hair removal treatment as although the
initial course of treatments will remove all of your hair follicles your body will
eventually produce and develop more. We find that clients typically require
a 'top-up' treatment once every six to twelve months to keep unwanted hair away!
Do I need to shave before IPL?
You won't have to worry about this with IPL, as you're actually advised to shave
before treatment. Shaving before your IPL hair removal treatment helps the light
beam to focus in on the hair root. When using IPL, you'll need to shave less
and less as your treatments go on.
How often should you do IPL hair removal?
between 4 and 6 weeks
To target the maximum number of hairs during each session, it is best to space
them between 4 and 6 weeks apart. This means that in most cases, you can
be hair-free in your chosen area in less than one year.
