Blood Flow
What determines how well blood flows through a filter? The larger the open area, the better the flow and the longer it can be maintained.
The surface area of the woven polyester screen is 161 cm2
The area open to flow is equivalent to a circular cross section of just 2¾ inches.
Transfusion Filter
Standard “high flow” or 80 μm rated clot screen blood filters have limited flow and capacity. Why? Because they are confined within a drip chamber. The available clot screen filters have
surface areas open to blood flow of only 8 cm2 to 23 cm2.
This is only 20 to 60% of the capacity of the transfusion filter.
Polyester Screen is Pleated and Assembled within a Small Easy-to-Use Filter Housing
The low residual volume conserves blood.
The large filter area provides a high unit filtering capacity, reducing the number of administration set changes.
The small filter housing allows for rapid priming, avoiding delays in administering blood.
