Description

The other end of the tube is connected to an oxygen supply such as a portable oxygen generator, or a wall connection in a hospital via a flowmeter. The Nasal Cannula is generally attached to the patient by way of the tube hooking around the patient's ears or by elastic head band. The advantages of nasal cannulas for patients who have chronic stable respiratory problems is that it is possible to eat, drink and talk while using them; they also reduce the risk of carbon dioxide rebreathing. Dry nasal passages can be a problem initially but with continued use this usually resolves itself.
