HUBI TSH is one step in vitro diagnostic test based on immunochromatography. It must be used with HUBI-QUAN pro and designed for quantitative determinatiqn of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in human serum or plasma or whole blood. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone(TSH) is a 28 to 30kDa glycoprotein released trom thyrotrophs (basophile cells) of the anterior pituitary gland. TSH is also secreted by the antehypophysis but under the control of the hypothalamic neuropeptide thyrotropin releasing hormone(TRH) and is modulated by thyroid feed-back through the action of thyroxine(T4) or triiodothyronine(T3). There is a strong inverse log-linear relationship between TSH and free T4(fT4) concentrations. Small changes in T4 concentrations will provoke very large changes in TSH concentrations. The diagnostic superiority of TSH measurement arises principally from this inverse log/linear relationship between circulating TSH and free T4 concentrations. TSH concentrations are considered the most reliable indicator of thyroid function abnormalities, and TSH analysis stands as the primary means of studying thyroid function.Blood TSH levels are raised in cases of primary hypothyroidism. The diagnosis of hypothyroidism is made by finding a low total or free T4 value and is confirmed by a raised TSH level. Mild primary hypothyroidism may be more difficult to diagnose by just measuring the level of total and free T4, because the total and free T4 value can sometimes be within the normal range. In these cases, TSH assays are useful for diagnosis since the levels of TSH are raised. In hyperthyroidism, levels of T3 and T4 are raised and TSH level is reduced.
