The first RetinaScope is the WFC-01 nun+ handheld, non-mydriatic retinal imaging camera that is low cost and easy to use. The RetinaScope will be a vital tool for the scalability of retina screening for eye diseases such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-related Macular degeneration (AMD) and Glaucoma. RetinaScope has launched the WFC-01 bundled with a smartphone and the dedicated RSpus software at Medica 2023 in Dusseldorf. The camera will use the first version of the RetinaScope software. The RS+ software runs on an Android phone connected to the non-mydriatic retinal camera.
Better Screening on the Horizon
At the inception of RetinaScope, it was realized that with an affordable, portable fundus camera, better screening for eye diseases is achievable. This will initiate earlier and more frequent screening by shifting fundus imaging for diabetic patients from specialists to general practitioners, optometrists, and opticians.
The retina, the back of the eye, is not only the most crucial interface to the outside world for humans but also serves as a clear indicator of what's happening within the body. Retinal imaging began as a diagnostic tool for eye diseases but is increasingly becoming a guide for health and wellness information. One of its most vital current functions is screening diabetic patients for diabetic retinopathy.
