The kit is used for qualitative detection of MERS coronavirus nucleic acid in the nasopharyngeal swabs and serum samples of patients infected with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus.
Epidemiology
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), a β-coronavirus that causes respiratory disease in humans, was first identified in a deceased 60-year-old Saudi Arabian male patient on 24th July, 2012. The clinical presentation of MERS-CoV infection ranges from asymptomatic state or mild respiratory symptoms to severe acute respiratory disease even death.
