Epidemiology
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in childhood. In recent years, acute leukemia (AL) has changed from MIC type (morphology, immunology, cytogenetics) to MICM type (addition of molecular biology testing). In 1994, it was discovered that TEL fusion in childhood was caused by nonrandom chromosomal translocation t(12;21)(p13;q22) in B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Since the discovery of the AML1 fusion gene, the TEL-AML1 fusion gene is the best way to judge the prognosis of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
