Epidemiology
C-Reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase reaction protein synthesized by liver cells, which can react with C polysaccharide of Streptococcus pneumoniae, with a molecular weight of 100,000-14,000. It consists of five identical subunits and forms a ring-shaped symmetrical pentamer through non-covalent bonds aggregation. It is present in the blood, cerebrospinal fluid, synovitis effusion, amniotic fluid, pleural effusion, and blister fluid as part of a nonspecific immune mechanism.
Serum amyloid A (SAA) is a polymorphic protein family encoded by multiple genes, and the precursor of tissue amyloid is an acute amyloid. In the acute phase of inflammation or infection, it increases rapidly within 4 to 6 hours, and decreases rapidly during the recovery period of the disease.
