ALCALACTINE® RAPID sutures are synthetic, absorbable, sterile surgical sutures composed of a copolymer synthesized from 90% Polyglycolic Acid and 10% L-Lactic Acid. Braided sutures are coated with coating material. The coating material of coated sutures consists of a mixture of Calcium Stearate, Polyglycolic Acid (30%) – L-Lactic Acid (70%).
When ALCALACTINE® RAPID sutures are implanted into a living organism, they are absorbed by the organism and do not cause excessive tissue irritation. ALCALACTINE® RAPID sutures are not antigenic or pyrogenic, only a mild tissue reaction occurs during absorption.
ALCALACTINE® RAPID sutures meet all the requirements defined in the European Pharmacopoeia (EP) and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) for absorbable synthetic sutures, except that the diameter limits are slightly exceeded in some sizes.
ALCALACTINE® RAPID sutures are produced in the sterile, braided undyed (natural, beige) color, USP 6/0 – USP 2 (metric 0.7-5) range, in various lengths from 10 cm to 150 cm, with or without a stainless steel needle.
Sutures are available in packs of one, two and three dozen.
