The main goal of a security cabinet, as described in standard EN 14470-1, is to protect the hazardous products stored so that, in case of fire and within a defined timeframe, the interior temperature does not increase more than 180K, therefore allowing:
Avoidance of explosions that may accelerate the fire.
Enough time to evacuate people.
Enough time for the fire brigade to fight the fire and evacuate people.
Standard EN 14470 further indicates that:
The cabinet should reduce the quantity of gas emitted into the working environment;
It should retain all liquids accidentally spilled inside;
The doors should automatically close at a 50ºC temperature, within a maximum of 20 seconds;
The cabinet should have entrance and exit holes for air;
The entrance and exit ventilation holes should automatically close at a 70ºC temperature.
