Smoothbore tubing reduces condensation and bacteria growth due to its smooth inner surface. The spiral reinforcement on the outer surface of the tubing makes the form more rigid and stable; it reduces the risk of kink/ folding and provides a reduced pressure drop in the circuit at the same time. The clear main body of the tubing enables ease of observation against potential blockages. These circuits are preferred for mid/longterm use and mostly for ventilation applications in ICU, but they are also used for anesthesia in OR.
