Cardioplegia sets are used to administer cardioplegia solutions into the heart during open heart surgery, temporarily stopping its contractions. These devices allow both antegrade and retrograde cardioplegia delivery to protect the heart during surgery. If no anticoagulant is used, the system ensures blood does not coagulate. Cardioplegia is also used at the end of surgery to restart the heart and nourish the myocardium.
