For a long time, the treatment of osteoid osteoma involved a “block” osseous excision that was damaging and disproportionate with respect to the size of the lesion. The difficulties in locating the nidus during surgery and the desire to limit the bone resection as much as possible contributed to the development of the percutaneous excision technique with scanographic location and guidance.
Advantages of PEBORD
Precision of the location
Very limited nature of the excision (not very invasive procedure)
Little risk of post-operative fracture
Short-term hospitalization (48 to 72 hours)
Rapid recovery of ability to use legs (with canes)
Resumption of normal activity is possible 2 months after the treatment
Percutaneous resection technique : PEBORD
• General anesthesia
• Collaboration of surgeon and radiologist
• Duration of the procedure : 45 to 90 minutes (locating and resection)
• Hospitalization : 1 to 2 days
• Immediate partial support
Check-ups : D 45, 6 months, 1 year
