Telescopic D.M.M. nail for epiphisary attachment without opening the joints
The technique of placing the telescopic nail is simple and avoids opening the joints
Material
Telescopic nails are centromedullary nails locked into the epiphyses. They are composed of a female part into which slides a male part that terminates in an “L” . They are custom-made. The diameter and the length of the nail are calculated using telemetric X- rays.
Locking the female part
The nailing of the female part into the epiphysis is insured by a pin threaded in the end. Passed through the eyelet of the female part of the nail, the pin is attached with a screw tightened onto the threaded part of the pin.
Locking of the male part
Many solutions are possibles :
• using a pin like the one mentioned before,
• using a standard pin,
• using an non absorbale surgical thread. The male part is then fastened to the soft tissue near the area of nail insertion.
• One short and one long drill bit whose diameters correspond to the diameter of the nail used for drilling the bone
