The Profemur® line of primary hip stems has an established clinical history. Each Profemur® hip stem offers its own philosophy to provide fixation and replace bone anatomy.
Tapered wedge stem philosophy
Designed for primary hip replacement surgery, the Profemur® TL hip stem is a dual tapered wedge stem with a unique geometry. It features a reduced lateral shoulder convenient for tissue-sparing surgical techniques. Allowing for three point fixation, the stem is shaped to contact cortical bone medially and laterally, while conserving cancellous bone anteriorly and posteriorly. Plasma spray coating and anteroposterior taper allow contact in the frontal plane, while rotational stability is enhanced via distal grooves.
DESIGN FEATURES
Tapered wedge geometry
Tapered both anteroposteriorly and mediolaterally. Wider M/L dimension contacts cortical bone medially and laterally, as the slim A/P dimension assists in torsional stability and conserves bone
Rotational stability
In addition to slim A/P dimension, the distal groove helps promote rotational stability by acting as a cavity for bone apposition
Increased fixation
Proximal portion of stems are coated with plasma spray coating to provide 1mm of additional press-fit
Ease of stem Insertion
Facilitated by a reduced lateral shoulder, glass-beaded distal texture, and a rounded distal tip that minimizes point contact after implantation
