Creatine Kinase-MB (CK-MB) is a form of enzyme found primarily in heart muscle cells.
CK-MB is one of three forms of the enzyme creatine kinase and is released from the muscle cells and is detectable in the blood when there is muscle damage in the heart.
When there is an increased presence of CK-MB in the blood, the CK-MB test can be used to determine whether it is a heart damage or not. CK-MB is thus a cardiac marker used to assist diagnoses of acute myocardial infraction, heart attack, distinguish between skeletal muscle and heart muscle damage, and monitor additional heart damage.
