FibroFix™ Cartilage is a product developed to treat damage to the articular cartilage in the knee. This is the smooth, stiff tissue that covers the ends of the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia) in the knee joint, enabling them to articulate against one another during normal activity. Defects in articular cartilage lead to exposure of the underlying bone, creating inflammation and pain in the joint. As wear progresses this can lead to bone against bone, severe osteoarthritis, and ultimately major surgery to implant a permanent total knee replacement device.
FibroFix™ Cartilage will enable the surgeon to ‘resurface’ the articular cartilage defect, even in larger and more advanced lesions. The smooth surface of FibroFix™ Cartilage replicates the articulating function of the missing tissue, while the porous architecture allows new tissue to infiltrate from the underlying bone. With its benchmark mechanical strength and resilience, FibroFix™ assumes the function of the damaged cartilage as soon as it has been implanted, enabling a swift, pain-free return to normal activity for the patient and a long-lasting durable repair.
