According to the US FDA and EU-Law, the maximum residue limit for all substances of the sulfonamide-group are 100 ppb in muscle, fat, liver, and kidney, and 100 ppb in milk. Although physical-chemical methods such as high pressure liquid chromatography are widely used for sulfonamide detection, their application for routine screening of numerous samples, however, is limited by cost and instrumentation.
