The scan program provides a clear, powerful interface for managing scanning parameters, which include X-ray beam energy and intensity, resolution, measurement time and desired density calibration. Parameter settings can be written to database as control files for repeated use in large projects, ensuring that results can be compared reliably, and settings used in previous measurements can be viewed and reused.
Scans can be performed either interactively via the user interface or (for specimen scanners) in batch mode, in which settings and scan position for multiple specimens are defined in a single session before scans run unattended in sequence. Batch mode is especially useful for scanners fitted with sample changers.
Reconstruction of 3D data sets from microCT projection data, including beam-hardening correction, is handled automatically after completion of each cone-beam image stack.
