The TSH Cassette Test (Immunofluorescence Test) is designed for the in vitro quantitative determination of Thyrostimulating Hormone (TSH) in serum or plasma. The measurement of TSH is useful to assist in the screening of primary hypothyroidism in the adult population by health professionals. It can also be used in the screening of neonatal hypothyroidism. Thyroid stimulating hormone (also known as thyrotropin, thyrotropic hormone, TSH or hTSH which stands for human TSH) is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce tyrosine (T4) and subsequently triiodothyronine (T3) which stimulates the metabolism of almost everyone body tissues 1. It is a glycoprotein hormone synthesized and secreted by thyrotrophic cells in the anterior pituitary gland that regulates the endocrine functions of the thyroid.
