Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is a spiral-shaped bacterium that is found in the gastric mucous layer or adherent to the epithelial lining of the stomach. H. pylori is associated with 98% of patients with duodenal ulcer and around 80% of those with gastric ulcer. Approximately two-thirds of the world's population is infected with H.pylori. The detection of the specific IgG antibodies to H.pylori has been shown to be an accurate method for detection of H.pylori infection in symptomatic patients.
