The metabolic cage system for rodents (gross activity), EM-XM designed by TOW-INT-TECH, is used to monitor the rodent's continuous activity and metabolism using the indirect calorimetry method. The animal experiment chamber is a conventional rat/mouse IVC cage, which is placed in an X/Y/Z activity monitoring module (Grating System). The system as a whole supports long-term animal disease model housing and can realize 24-hour monitoring.
It provides a highly flexible and modular solution for long-term monitoring of metabolism and related behavior in small laboratory animals. The system can simultaneously manipulate various functional parameters in the cage using TOW-INT-TECH-developed metabolism monitoring software, such as respiratory exchange ratio (RER) monitoring, feeding behavior monitoring, drinking behavior monitoring, body weight changes monitoring, XYZ autonomous activity monitoring, running wheel activity monitoring, and respiratory monitoring.
The system can also integrate physiological telemetry monitoring modules or can be customized according to users’ requirements. It is mainly used in researching nutrition, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular and other endocrine and metabolic-related diseases, kinematics, physiology, and other life science fields.
