Description

POSEIDON Expandable Vertebral Body Replacement Expandable Vertebral Body Replacement Maximum cortical support Rotational stability Endplates mountable at any 45° position Bone defects – caused by tumors, fractures or infections – cause significant stress on the implant used for reconstruction due to the resection of weight bearing structures. Secure support for the cortical bone and a reliable mechanism are the prerequisites that must be fulfilled by any vertebral body replacement device. With POSEIDON® the risk of implant subsidence is minimized by the use of endplates that are as large as possible, which also ensures rotational stability for the implant. POSEIDON’s secure mechanical system prevents the VBR from dislocation caused by loss of height. The angular variability with which the endplates of POSEIDON® can be mounted on the base body allows the surgeon freedom to choose the access for treatment of defects caused by tumours, fractures or infections in the spine from T1 – L5. The slightly convex shape of the endplates allows the implant to rest securely on the endplates of the adjacent vertebral bodies. Therefore secure primary stability is provided and dislocation prevented without stressing the more unstable central core. The inserted device, combined with supplemental posterior instrumentation, leads to immediate biomechanical stabilization. Five different sizes of base body, ranging from 30 mm to 80 mm (height measured with two straight endplates) can be combined with endplates in different sizes and angles.
