Single use, non-sterile capillary blood collection tube, containing an inert gel barrier and a clot activator coating, intended for the primary containment and preservation of specimens for the purposes of in-vitro diagnostic examination.
Used to obtain and separate a serum sample.
The BD SST Microtainer® blood collection tubes have been designed to be used for the collection, transportation and processing of small amounts of capillary blood. They contain an inert gel barrier and a clot activator coating that is intended for the primary containment and preservation of specimens for the purpose of in-vitro diagnostic examination. Specifically to obtain and separate a serum sample.
This PP tube has a 400-600μl draw volume and measures 10mm diameter and 45mm height with a silica (0.10-2.56mg/mL) additive and a polyester gel (0.9-3.50g) separator within the tube. The gold cap has the BD Microgard™ tube closure, designed to protect from blood which may splatter when the tube is opened. The rubber stopper is recessed inside the plastic shield, preventing exposure to blood present on the stopper. A larger diameter facilitates handling of the tube. In combination with a tube extender, the BD Microtainer® tubes with BD Microgard™ closure fit into 13 x 75mm racks.
To ensure tube identification, the tubes are marked with the colour code that corresponds to the venous blood collection tubes. There are fill marks on the tubes that ensure the correct blood to additive ratio.
