Over the years, SSI Diagnostica has supplied reference strains to hospitals and universities throughout the world for tests for diagnosis and typing of Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Product description
The strains are sold and delivered primarily as freeze-dried ampoules. Unopened ampoules can be stored for a long time at room temperature.
If SSI Diagnostica does not have a strain as a freeze-dried ampoule, it can instead be supplied in a transport medium, if desired. Such a strain can be stored only for a short time and must be cultured on receipt.
The strains are produced and quality-tested for serotype. The serotype is tested using an agglutination test with Pneumotest-Latex and a Neufeld test with type-specific antisera.
The strains are for ‘in vitro’ use, for testing purposes, e.g. serotype determination, and may not be used for commercial purposes (e.g. sale, production of vaccines, antibodies, etc.), without prior written agreement with SSI Diagnostica.
Over the years, SSI Diagnostica has supplied reference strains to hospitals and universities throughout the world.
The collection contains all known serotypes that can be typed with specific antisera.
How to use
All strains are supplied with a certificate, on which the serotype and the supplied batch number are stated. The certificate also states the recommended method of culturing the bacterial culture.
SSI Diagnostica recommends that the strains are cultured at 36-37°C overnight, in air containing 5% CO2, on agar with 10% blood, or in serum bouillon with 1% serum.
The collection contains all known serotypes that can be typed with specific antisera.
