Pneumococci are enclosed within a capsule consisting of repeated units of polysaccharides. The composition of the polysaccharides defines the serotype.
Product description
The polyclonal pool, type and factor antisera are purified and coupled to blue latex particles. All the products are absorbed free of cross-reactions.
Each kit is supplied in a box with ready-to-use latex reagents, sufficient for approx. 75 tests.

How to use
The latex products are used for serotyping based on agglutination. Equal quantities of latex reagent and bacterial culture are mixed on a white card, which is tipped back and forth. The reaction must be read within 5-10 seconds.
Product range
The kit consists of the latex reagents pools A-I and P-Q. By testing all 14 pools and using the chessboard system described, it is possible to identify the 23 vaccine serotypes to type/group level. Traditional or latex-coupled factor antisera can then be used for full serotyping.

Can I freeze the antibodies?
Antibodies can be frozen, but the process of freezing and thawing is damaging for the antibodies, and the titer will drop (even though not dramatically) due to decomposition.
We have not made further studies on this, and cannot guarantee the stability of the sera, but we have experienced that mostly the titer stays at the same level if a serum is only frozen and thawn once.
