Control tests to measure the ability to remove air pockets from porous objects. Only suitable for class B autoclaves. The purpose of this test is to gain an insight into the quality of vapour penetration in a package. In other words, whether the autoclave is working properly. A complete colour change in a Bowie & Dick test indicates that complete steam penetration is taking place in the test pack. Failure of the test is due to the presence of air in the test pack.
